Background

The Imaging Unit (ICICORELAB), founded in 2003 by Dr Francisco Fernández-Avilés and Dr Alberto San Román, is located in the Department of Cardiology  of the Institute of Heart Sciences (ICICOR) at the Clinical University Hospital of Valladolid. It was created to meet the need for certain centralised services to support the research centres that are members of the Cooperative Cardiovascular Disease Research Network (RECAVA), a Spanish thematic network for collaborative research funded by the Carlos III Health Institute. The unit is based on the experience of the personnel of the Department of Cardiology with a high level of research activity at national and international levels. Since mid-2006, Dr. Alberto San Román has been the Head of the Imaging Unit and Dr. Roman Arnold its Coordinator.

Further, since 2004, there has been close cooperation with the Imaging Unit at the Vall d´Hebron University Hospital in Barcelona who offer isotope stress tests and computerized tomography imaging of the coronary arteries and other cardiac structures. The head of that Unit is Dr. Jaume Candell and the coordinator Dr. Santiago Aguadé.
